The Jane Goodall Institute (JGI) was founded by Dr. Jane Goodall in 1977 to continue her chimpanzee research at Gombe and to connect science with conservation, animal welfare and community development.
Today the institute runs the Gombe Stream Research Center — the longest-running study of wild chimpanzees in the world — and the Tchimpounga sanctuary in the Republic of the Congo, the largest chimpanzee sanctuary in Africa, caring for animals rescued from the illegal wildlife trade.
JGI's signature approach is Tacare (launched in 1994): community-led conservation that puts local people at the forefront of change. The Roots & Shoots youth programme is active in more than 75 countries.
I support this project personally, outside the proceeds from the whisky editions.
