About the project
A Den Belongs to the Fox is a campaign by the Czech organisation Svoboda zvířat aiming to ban fox digging (norovani) and its training on live foxes kept in captivity. Fox digging is an outdated and cruel hunting method: the dog fights the animal inside the den, drives it out, and if the dog does not kill it, the hunter shoots it.
Foxes are often taken into captivity, where they spend their whole lives as living bait for non-contact digging training. Locked in small cages, they wait in stress and fear for the next dogs to be released on them – the stress level is the same as during a real hunt. Foxes are legally protected only from March to June; for the rest of the year both adults and cubs face a cruel death.
Fox digging is also ineffective – only 3% of all foxes killed were hunted this way. The campaign therefore collects signatures for an appeal to politicians: more than 117,000 people have already stood up for ending it. With relevant laws now being opened, public voices genuinely count.
