Talisker x Parley: Wilder Seas & The Wild Blue – Whisky Protecting the Oceans

The Talisker distillery on the Isle of Skye was founded in 1830, and its whiskies carry the unmistakable character of the stormy Atlantic — peppery spice, salinity, light smoke. Few distilleries have such a natural relationship with the ocean, which is exactly why it makes sense that Talisker turned its strength toward protecting it.

Wilder Seas & The Wild Blue

Wilder Seas (2023) was created in collaboration with Parley for the Oceans. A whisky finished in cognac casks, with £3 from every bottle going directly to restoring kelp forests in Scotland, South Africa, and Chile. The project has contributed over £500,000 in total, protecting 100 million m² of underwater forests.

The Wild Blue (2025) continues this tradition: £3 from every bottle (£112,608 total) goes to the Blue Marine Foundation for restoring oyster reefs in England. The bottle is made from 100% recycled glass and comes without a box — no unnecessary packaging.

Both editions feature eco-friendly bottles with an embossed underwater landscape relief. A detail that personally delighted me.

    How do they taste?

Wilder Seas brings dried fruit on the nose — dates, figs — complemented by sea salt and light smoke. On the palate, creamy sweetness, peppery spice, and Talisker's signature salinity; a drop of water opens up the fruitiness further. The finish is long, warming, and smoky.

The Wild Blue takes a slightly different direction: sweet ocean waves, herbal mint, and citrus with a hint of pepper on the nose. On the palate, intense pepperiness, sweet fruit, and mineral salinity. The finish is long, salty-smoky with minty freshness — like a coastal walk after a storm.

Why these bottles make sense to me

Kelp and oyster reefs are among the most important ecosystems the oceans have — they absorb CO₂, protect coastlines from erosion, and provide shelter for hundreds of species. Yet we pay them a fraction of the attention given to forests on land.

That's exactly why I mention these editions — they are precisely the type of bottle that belongs in the Whisky for Nature selection. You drink exceptional whisky while knowing that part of the money goes where it's truly needed.

Whisky for Nature — premium whisky for nature conservation. A portion of proceeds from each edition goes directly to selected conservation projects.
